This spring, one thing is for sure—just say no to floral separates and pastel pieces and instead invest in the must-have accessory of the season: a head-turning purse that redefines the statement accessory.
Nearly every fashion house this spring has turned its bag offerings into virtual works of art, rich with magnificent details and—perhaps most notably—incredibly ornate straps.
Inspired by guitar straps and the 1970s, Valentino’s collection includes beaded and embroidered purses worthy of the likes of Stevie Nicks (and those who covet her impeccable bohemian style). The house also sells straps separately, as do Tory Burch and Anya Hindmarch, allowing the customer to get creative with a customized carryall. Even Chanel’s iconic boy bag gets an update this season, care of a braided leather and iridescent chain handle. And, leave it to Gucci to design the season’s piece de resistance, an intricate white leather shoulder bag with an enameled dragon-head closure, gothic graffiti and a pink-and-red satin strap. It’s so extraordinary, it begs to be paired with a simple outfit, allowing it to take the spotlight it so deserves.
So as flowers slowly begin to bloom again, it’s time to cast aside winter’s more sturdy accessories in favor of light, bright and whimsical pieces that capture the spirit of the season.
