Mermaiding is a thing now, and merfolk-in-training can learn how to swim with a tail at the Middle Pool at Montage Kapalua Bay, where Sarah Ferguson, The Mindful Mermaid and a CPR and Emergency First Response instructor with years of experience teaching thousands of children water activities in both the pool and the ocean, teaches guests how to become a mermaid for the day.
“Part of mermaid training is learning to respect and protect the ocean,” Ferguson says about educating guests about their ocean surroundings. “From interesting Maui sea life and ocean facts to the importance of conservation efforts and what you can do to help, our aim is to give you a deeper understanding and love for the ocean and its inhabitants. Mermaids are of the sea, after all.”
The Mini Mermaids Program, which takes place Wednesdays from 8-9 a.m. for children ages 4 to 7 years, is $110 per child; photos and choice of tails included.
Or join the Beginner Mermaid Class at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. which is available for adults, teens and children eight years and older who can swim. $220 per person; photos included.
