Griffith Observatory
Calling all future astronauts! First opened in 1933, this Los Angeles icon is the most visited public observatory in the world. After a recent $93 million renovation, the expanded facility (it’s twice its former size now) debuted the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, a copper-sheathed dome with 300 reclining seats, a computerized projector and laser technology for an out-of-this-world star-studded experience.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is great for both children and adults alike. Younger kids will enjoy Jesús Rafael Soto’s “Penetrable in Neon Lime,” an interactive exhibit that consists of a rain shower of rubber tubing.
