Thanksgiving is a special time at Montage Palmetto Bluff: Logs burn in fireplaces, holiday lights decorate the inn and days are filled with fun activities like a scavenger hunt, an oyster roast, a wildlife exhibit and river cruises.
Another tradition is Montage Palmetto Bluff’s Turkey Trot, a 3-mile race that winds through Wilson Village’s shady streets and pathways to the Village Green and a festive post-run party.
Since 2014, Montage Palmetto Bluff, through Hearts of Montage, has donated the race’s registration fees to Meals on Wheels of Bluffton/Hilton Head. Since the partnership began in 2014, the program has donated nearly $25,000 to the nonprofit Meals on Wheels service, which delivers hot lunches Monday through Friday to injured, ill, elderly and disabled individuals, allowing them to remain in their own homes and live independently. The organization serves between 65 and 85 individuals in Bluffton, Hilton Head and Sun City.
Meals on Wheels is truly a volunteer organization: None of the men and women who prepare, package and deliver meals are paid; even the kitchen space used is donated, allowing 100 percent of any money given to the organization to go back into the program.
Hearts of Montage came about in 2003, when a group of Montage Laguna Beach associates expressed a desire to serve the Laguna Beach, California, community. Working together with the Montage leadership team, the associates developed a mission statement and chose these areas of focus: health care/disease prevention, environmental protection and education, children’s education, care for senior citizens and family socioeconomic assistance.
Since that time, Hearts of Montage has expanded into each destination where Montage Hotels & Resorts has a presence. The thriving program continues to be led by associates committed to the spirit of volunteerism and, around Thanksgiving, what could be more appropriate than a Turkey Trot?
