During the winter, it can be difficult to stay on track when it comes to maintaining a consistent workout and wellness routine since the colder months bring with them holiday parties, travel and plenty of celebratory meals. Guests of Montage Hotels & Resorts, however, can expect to find a plethora of exhilarating activities and strategies provided by on-site trainers and fitness instructors that make it easy to stay in shape this season.
“Creating a plan for yourself is big,” says Ben Auerbach, a personal trainer at Spa Montage Kapalua Bay. “It’s easy to get caught up in eating unhealthy foods and getting off of your workout regimen, especially when you’re on vacation, so when you come in with a plan, that makes a big difference. Set up time with a trainer or schedule gym time, play golf—plan to do something active each day.”
Auerbach also recommends getting a workout in as soon as you arrive at your Montage destination, which not only helps you stick to your fitness regimen throughout the remainder of your stay, but also promotes sounder sleep—an effective way to beat jet lag.
“Our properties offer plenty of activities to do, which lends itself well to incorporating all [of] the things that you want to enjoy during the holidays,” Auerbach adds.
Surfset, a dynamic class inspired by one of the world’s most athletic sports, uses real surfing techniques on a surfboard for workouts that build balance, core strength, stability, agility, aerobic conditioning, power and coordination.
A variety of options—from a challenging mountain trail to a coastal route—are available for a private, customized hike or run, ranging from 60 minutes to an entire afternoon. Fitness instructors will provide both an outdoor workout and a brief history of the land surrounding Montage Kapalua Bay during the scheduled time.
Take advantage of the Southern California sunshine in Montage Beverly Hills’ Outdoor Boot Camp classes. The challenging workout, led by a trainer, will get your heart rate up and help strengthen and tone all of your muscle groups through a series of plyometric and agility moves, cardio drills and strength training. The 60-minute class is capped off with stretching and an intense core workout.
At Montage Palmetto Bluff, take in the scenic views along the May River as you log your daily workout on a paddleboard. Guests may schedule time with a guide—anywhere from an hour to an entire afternoon—and work their arms, back and core while getting up close and personal with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. The watersport experience is as tranquil as it is trying.
Skiers and fitness enthusiasts alike will revel in Montage Deer Valley’s Morning Mountain Stretch and The Post Ski Stretch. The 45-minute sessions, which occur daily in the morning and afternoon through the end of the ski season, target each muscle group individually from head to toe.
